As parents we all experience stress and pressures in variety of different forms and means. Stress and pressures of life create mental despair, marital strain and may cause increases in substance and physical abuse.

Parents feel anxiety, stress and the pressures of life while trying to do their best to raise their children.  Parental stress directly impacts the well-being of the whole family in particular the children. But, how do they learn to DE-STRESS?

Dr. Sophy created a technique called SWEEP.  SWEEP is easy to remember and can be practiced every day.

SLEEP- Get 7- 8 hours of sleep nightly.

WORK- Be happy at the end of the day.

EATING- Eat healthy energetic food.

EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION of SELF- Its okay to let the important people in your life how you are feeling.

PLAY- Everyone needs to enjoy life and take time to play.

  • Take a walk every day
  • Read
  • Quiet time at least 10 minutes a day
  • Plan Ahead
  • Learn to Say No
  • Prioritize Daily Chores
  • Delegate Work and Responsibilities
  • Laze About-It’s OK
  • Take deep breathes
  • Take time to enjoy life and your children

Stress will always be with us in one way or another, focusing on ways to decrease stress is beneficial and healthy for you and your family.

    I like the advice about lazing about. I plan on doing it later today. This advice is so important, especially for new parents. Parenting can be overwhelming sometimes, for sure.
